Engineering tools
Two calculators, built from the standard relations, with their assumptions written down and their limits stated. Free to use, no sign-up, and nothing is collected.
Reference depth calculator
How deep the induced current flows, for a given material and frequency. The number that decides whether you are surface hardening or through heating.
- Inputs
- Material, frequency, resistivity, permeability
- Output
- Reference depth in mm and inches
Induction power estimator
A first-pass kilowatt figure from the three things that actually determine it: how much metal, how hot, how fast.
- Inputs
- Material, mass, temperature, rate, efficiency
- Output
- Required power in kW, plus the closest ABE power class
What these are for, and what they are not
They exist because the two questions they answer are the ones every enquiry starts with, and because getting a rough answer yourself before you talk to a supplier puts you in a better position than not having one.
They are not quotations, and they are not heat treatment specifications. Every simplifying assumption is listed on the tool itself rather than hidden: constant specific heat, a flat semi-infinite surface, permeability treated as a fixed number when it is not. Real machines are specified against real parts.
Tell us about the part.
Send a drawing, the material, the case depth or temperature you need, and your production rate. Our engineers will help define the right machine for your process.
