A handheld fiber laser welder puts a very concentrated beam into a very small area. Because the energy is concentrated, the weld is made before much heat spreads into the surrounding metal, which means less distortion, less discolouration and often no grinding or polishing afterwards.

That last point is where the time is saved. On thin stainless sheet, a MIG or TIG weld is usually followed by grinding and polishing that takes longer than the weld itself. A laser seam is frequently finished as it comes off the gun.

We supply these systems with a high performance fiber laser source, a touchscreen interface with adjustable parameters, interchangeable welding nozzles, and a choice of air cooled or water cooled configurations. They are used on stainless steel, aluminium, copper and titanium.

Questions engineers ask

How does it compare with MIG and TIG?

Lower heat input, less distortion, faster travel, and cleaner results that often need no post-processing. TIG still wins where you need a large fillet or heavy penetration on thick section; laser wins on thin material and on anything where the finish matters.

Does it work on aluminium?

Yes. Aluminium and its alloys are reflective and conduct heat quickly, which makes them awkward for some processes, but a fiber laser couples well enough to weld them.

What maintenance does it need?

Little. Fiber laser sources are long-lived and largely sealed. Routine attention is cleaning the protective lens and checking the air filters.
