Construction and earthmoving equipment

Pins, bushes and linkage components that carry load and abrasion together.

We develop inductors and hardening processes for JCB and other construction equipment components. We tailor the machine to your drawing, material, wear surfaces and production requirements.

Earthmoving components combine two demanding conditions: high contact loads through pins and bushes in linkages, and constant abrasion from soil and stone. Both are surface problems, which is exactly what induction hardening addresses.

Sections tend to be large, which puts this work at the upper end of the range. The ABE-60AB is specified to 80 mm shaft diameter and the ABE-120AB to 120 mm, with the vertical scanner covering 20 mm to 120 mm across a 0.8 mm to 5 mm case depth.

Worth knowing

  • Deeper cases are common here because contact stresses run high, which pushes towards lower frequencies and longer heating times.
  • Pins and bushes are often hardened as matched pairs; coil design for the internal bore is a different problem from the external diameter and both are inductor design work.
